God is our Fortress

(VERSE 1)

God is our fortress, safe and sure,

A shield that never fails us,

Our helper that we may endure

Each tempest that assails us.

For still our wicked foe

Continues causing woe,

His guile and power are great

To work his evil hate,

And God alone can thwart him.

(VERSE 2 )

If in our own strength we confide,

Our striving would be losing,

But there is One who takes our side,

The Man of God’s own choosing:

The Son of God is he

Who comes to set us free,

And strengthen us with might

To rally in the fight,

And He shall give the victory.

(VERSE 3 )

God’s word prevails against all powers

Throughout the whole creation,

Soon His deliverance shall be ours

Through Him who brings salvation.

For if in our distress,

We lose all we possess,

In faith, we still press on;

The battle will be won;

God’s kingdom stands forever!
